Real Madrid are interested in signing a Tottenham Hotspur centre-back, after they missed out on signing Leny Yoro. Given the ageing nature of their defence, combined with losing Nacho Fernandez this summer, Carlo Ancelotti sees the necessity of bringing a fresh approach into his back-line. So, naturally, he has targeted Cristian Romero of Tottenham.

The Argentine centre-back is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and after winning the Copa America this summer, has only continued to establish himself among the greats. Many believe that he is pivotal to Ange Postecoglou's long-term plan in North London, hence why Daniel Levy (chairman of Tottenham) has valued Romero at a ridiculous price of €175m.

Needless to say, Real Madrid are not prepared to pay €175m, no club is willing to pay that price which is why Daniel Levy set it in the first place. However, it doesn't mean that Real Madrid have lost hope.

According to an update from Argentine website and radio show Doble Amarilla, Real Madrid are prepared to offer €50m, having already made inquiries for the player. This is €125m below Daniel Levy's asking price but in all honesty, that asking price should be taken with a pinch of salt.

As is often the case, Real Madrid will hope that their gigantic club size will play a part in this deal. While it won't do anything in the club negotiations, it is often the case that players desire a move to Real Madrid, so Cristian Romero could get the wheels in motion, should he wish. That said, nothing has been suggested yet to indicate Romero wants a move away from Tottenham.

Cristian Romero is a hard-working and tenacious defender. He is very well at one-on-one defensive situations but his discipline has been under question at times. If anyone can calm his temprement, it's Carlo Ancelotti, whose calmness transcends into the minds of his players more often than not.

How much do you think Real Madrid should sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham for?
