Carlo Ancelotti is the best in the business. Finally, he is recognised as one of the greatest managers of all-time but the truth is that Real Madrid fans didn't need this validation from the world. The Italian boss, referred to by many as "The Don", has worked with a plethora of the best players in the world, so he knows what to look out for in terms of talent recruitement.

In many ways, this is why Real Madrid remain the dominant force in world football. Given the age of the squad available to Real Madrid currently, this dominance is forecasted to continue for many years to come and it's all thanks to Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino Perez working together in harmony to make the best possible decisions for the club.

Real Madrid strike a deal with Carlo Ancelotti-endorsed defender

When Don Carlo speaks, the football world is encouraged to listen. Well, a player who he has long-endorsed could be on the cusp of re-signing for Real Madrid.

According to a report from MARCA, Real Madrid have agreed upon a contract extension for their French defender Ferland Mendy. Given that his current contract expires in 2025, his new contract is expected to include a two-year extension, meaning he would be under contract until 2027. Ferland Mendy is yet to sign the deal, only then will it become official.

From Real Madrid's perspective, tying Mendy down to a new deal is a win-win. He is clearly a talented full-back and Real Madrid need a player who can play as a left-back, with the news that Alphonso Davies will remain at Bayern Munich for at least one more season. Therefore, keeping Mendy on board for at least another campaign seems like a no-brainer.

If Real Madrid do pursue Alphonso Davies on a free transfer in 2025, then they would be in a better position to sell Ferland Mendy if he was still under contract by then. Therefore, Real Madrid would be signing a world-class full-back for free, while making money on one of their own. It's this kind of forward-thinking and prudence which makes Florentino Perez an exceptional club president.

Ferland Mendy got off to a rough start in the 2023/24 campaign as he struggled to find his feet at the beginning of the season. Wearing a jersey with the weight of the Royal White jersey was bound to place him under scrutiny but as the season progressed, Mendy got back to winning form and has proven to be a valuable asset to Real Madrid.

Do you think Real Madrid are right to extend Ferland Mendy's contract?
