Real Madrid are known advocates of Alphonso Davies. The full-back is one of the best in the world in his position and naturally, has caught the eye of the best club in the world. It helps that Davies plays for Bayern Munich, who obviously have their former ties to current Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti never had the pleasure of working with the speedy defender Davies. In fact, Davies broke through in the couple of years after Ancelotti left Bayern Munich. Nevertheless, Davies remains a player within the realm of Ancelotti, as many believe the two can kindle an exceptional relationship together.

As things stand, there is no agreement in place between Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Alphonso Davies for a deal in the summer transfer window. Instead, Davies has revealed his preference to play for Real Madrid and as things stand, talks have stalled between Davies and Bayern over a contract extension, with his deal set to expire in 2025.

Still, it must be reaffirmed that Real have not been able to secure a deal at this stage.

Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies U-turn affects Real Madrid transfer plan

According to a report from Sky Sports Germany, Bayern Munich have made a shocking U-turn with their full-back. It is revealed that the Bavarians will keep ahold of Alphonso Davies for next season, even if he plays out the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena. This certainly impacts the Real Madrid transfer plans, as they planned to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Still, it works in Real Madrid's favour that they are not in dire need of a new full-back signing. In fact, Ferland Mendy is very capable of playing at the highest level in this position. Therefore, they are afforded the luxury of letting Mendy prosper for another season before implementing Alphonso Davies.

If Davies becomes available for a free transfer in 2025, this cannot be refused by Real Madrid. While the ideal option of signing him in the summer transfer window looks up in the air, if this Sky Germany report is anything to go by, it is not the end of the world.

As mentioned, Davies is one of the best defenders in the world. He is playing at the peak of his powers, ageing 23 years old. He would still be young if he were to sign for Real Madrid on a pre-contract agreement, leaving him as a 24-year-old signing in that scenario. It will depend on how things pan out in the 2024/25 season, though.
