Earlier this week, The Real Champs published an article which claimed that Real Madrid would like to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool. The Argentinian World Cup winner is seen as the ideal Toni Kroos replacement, which hits closer to home after the German legend revealed his retirement after the upcoming EURO 2024.

But as with any transfer story, there is more than one side to the coin. In fact, there are many. Therefore, it is important to consider where Alexis Mac Allister's mind rests amid the transfer speculation. After all, the player always has the power to pull the plug on any transfer.

Real Madrid transfer target comments on his situation at Liverpool

According to a report from ESPN Argentina, Alexis Mac Allister was asked about the interest from Real Madrid and instead of adding fuel to the speculation, he refused to comment and instead, expressed his devotion to Liverpool. In his own (translated) words, Mac Allister said: “I don’t talk about assumptions, I’m very happy at Liverpool.”

Real Madrid fans should not be shocked by this. It is common practice for players to express their satisfaction at their contracted club, regardless of how they truly feel about the interest.

The game is fuelled by PR and players have teams behind them to make sure they say the "right" thing to the media at all times. Therefore, player comments are often the last thing clubs should use to gage a player's true feelings.

While I have no doubt that Alexis Mac Allister is happy at Liverpool - After all, he has become a key player and learned for one season under one of the best managers in history - There is no denying that when Real Madrid come calling, players will answer the call nine times out of ten.

Real Madrid are on the precipice of a treble, should they win the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1. They need to prove nothing, since they are already the competition's most successful team, a long way ahead of AC Milan and Liverpool. But Carlo Ancelotti will still be hungry to add to that impressive tally.

Real Madrid will continue to test the waters with Alexis Mac Allister and as they should. Fans will see how "happy" Mac Allister truly is at Liverpool come the end of the summer transfer window.
