Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have already met on the field this season, as they played a stunning double-header in the UEFA Champions League semifinal. Ultimately, it was Joselu who stole the show but Real Madrid were also keeping a close eye on one Bayern Munich player throughout the tie, and it was a Bayern player who scored.
Strategic wide-man “close to” Real Madrid transfer from Bayern Munich
It is widely-documented that there is a mutual respect from Real Madrid and Alphonso Davies. Davies has chosen Real Madrid as his preferred destination, while Madrid will pursue the transfer. However, from the Blancos' perspective, they are in no rush as they have the upper-hand.
According to a report from AS, Alphonso Davies has moved a step "closer to" joining Real Madrid in the summer. This is because talks over extending his stay at Bayern Munich have stalled. Talks stalled due to Davies asking for too much out of Bayern Munich, €16M per year in wages plus a further bonus, which Bayern are not prepared to offer.
It is reported within the article that Real Madrid is Davies' preferred destination, so reading between the lines, perhaps Davies is holding out for the Spanish capital.

Alphonso Davies is an exceptional wide-player and one of the best full-backs in the world. Given his speed and strategy, it is easy to envision him on the wing but make no mistake about it, Ancelotti has Davies in mind at full-back. After all, this is the Canadian's strongest position and it is the best position for him to improve Madrid, with their ageing defence.
From Bayern Munich's perspective, the ultimatum is clear; either Davies renews his contract or he will be sold. It is an understandable ultimatum from Bayern, since they do not wish to lose a profitable asset for free. On that note, Bayern would like to acquire €50M, as per an earlier AS report.
However, Real Madrid remain calm. They will not be dragged into paying over the odds for, let's face it, a luxury player who is not a necessity to them at this stage. Therefore, Florentino Perez is toying with the idea of signing Davies for cheaper than his asking price.
In many ways, the ball is in Real Madrid's court. They are in an excellent negotiation position since the player is leaning towards a move to the Spanish capital. Given that he is in the final year of his contract, Bayern cannot hold out for much longer.
