Real Madrid have been heavily linked with Trent Alexander-Arnold in recent times. The Liverpool right-back's contract is set to run out next summer and it remains to be seen whether the club are able to agree an extension with him. If they don't, expect Los Blancos to be at the front of the queue for his signature as a free agent.
Real Madrid have signed plenty of players as free agents in recent years. Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba arrived as established veterans, while Kylian Mbappe joined this summer, before he had even reached his prime.
Someone like Trent would be a solid signing for Real Madrid. Dani Carvajal has been fantastic in recent times and is a frontrunner for the Ballon d'Or, after winning both the Champions League and EUROs. He is 32 years of age though and sooner or later, the club will need to find a replacement for the legendary Spaniard.
Trent is not the only Liverpool player we might see playing in a Royal White jersey next season though. Virgil van Dijk has been tipped to make the switch to Santiago Bernabeu as well.
Two Liverpool superstars tipped to join Real Madrid
As reported by the Mirror, Graeme Souness expects Liverpool to lose both Van Dijk and Trent next summer. Not only that, but he anticipates the pair both joining Real Madrid.
Just like Trent, Van Dijk's current deal is set to run out next summer as well. He would not be a long-term signing for Real Madrid and will be 34 years of age at that point.
Real Madrid do need to strengthen in central defence though. Nacho left this summer while the club failed to sign Leny Yoro, who joined Manchester United. Signing someone of Van Dijk's quality on a short-term deal, especially as a free agent, would not be a bad idea.
