It would be safe to say that David Moyes has over-delivered on all expectations in his ongoing stint as West Ham United manager and even guided them to their first piece of silverware in more than forty years. Despite that, there has always been a sense of uncertainty around his future at the club and it does feel like the Scotsman could be on his way out this summer. And a former Real Madrid boss could be the one replacing him.
Real Madrid's recent managerial history has been a mixed bag. The likes of Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti have been outstanding without doubt.
But then, there have also been appointments like Rafa Benitez and Julen Lopetegui. While the former's reputation has never recovered since his spell at Real Madrid, the latter has managed to do that.
Lopetegui has had good spells at Sevilla and Wolves since leaving Real Madrid. Now, it looks like the former Spanish national team head coach could make his return to management with West Ham United.
West Ham United close to signing former Real Madrid manager
As reported by TUTTOmercatoWEB, Lopetegui could soon find an agreement with West Ham United. The London club are ready to say goodbye to Moyes and open a new cycle with the Spaniard, who should sign a three-year contract. There would have been new talks between the parties, which would have led to an acceleration of the negotiations.
Lopetegui already has experience of the English game, having managed Wolves. And while it was not a long spell, it certainly enhanced his reputation.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Lopetegui. He was recently linked with the AC Milan job as well but it looks like a move back to England is more likely for the former Real Madrid manager.
