Real Madrid drew 1-1 against Al-Hilal in their first match of the Club World Cup to spoil Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Xabi Alonso's debut game.

Real Madrid started the game in the same way they started most games last season - conceding a chance and forcing a save from Thibaut Courtois. Real Madrid did not control much of the ball in the first half, but they did score from a really good transitional break finished off by Gonzalo Garcia.

They quickly conceded from a penalty after a careless challenge by Raul Asencio. Real Madrid started off much better in the second half and gained control.

Here are player ratings from Xabi Alonso's first game in charge.

Real Madrid 1-1 Al-Hilal: Player ratings as Trent Alexander-Arnold makes debut

Thibaut Courtois

Business as usual for Courtois, making crucial saves as soon as the whistle blows. He was also good in possession, and he could not have done much about the penalty. Rating: 7.5

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid's new set-piece taker made his debut for the club and it was not a bad 62 minute spell at all. He went forward well, and used his passing range from midfield. Defensively, he was solid, too, although it was clear he was not ready for a full 90 minute match for the club. Good performance, and was replaced by Lucas Vazquez. Rating: 7

Raul Asencio

Very surprising but Asencio gave in one of the worst halves of his Real Madrid's first team career, as after a brilliant challenge at the start, the Spanish centre-back started struggling. He gave away the penalty very cheaply, and was substituted at half-time. Not the best of games. Rating: 5

Dean Huijsen

A really good debut from Huijsen, as it felt like he fits like a glove. Really nice performance on and off the ball. Huijsen's passing helped Real Madrid's build-up a lot - it felt like a breath of fresh air. Huijsen was much better of the two central defenders Real Madrid had in the first half, and it felt good to have a new face in this department. Rating: 7.5

Fran Garcia

Had an awful first half, but Fran did improve by a respectable margin in the second. He is not the tallest, but he used his strength to win duels, and defended diligently. Quite the opposite in the first half. Won a penalty in the last few minutes, surprisingly. Rating: 6

Aurelien Tchouameni

One of the better players on the pitch. Was great as a pivot, although was left in no man's land by his teammates on occasion. Tchouameni cleared fires there initially, then moved to the centre-back position and did the same there. Rating: 7.5

Fede Valverde

Not a decent performance by Valverde's standards. He looked a bit slow and unsure while shooting from range, and made some mistakes defensively. Missed the penalty that would have won Real Madrid the game. Rating: 5.5

Jude Bellingham

Decent performance from Bellingham - at least in the second half. Worked hard defensively, but was not involved as much as he would have liked. Second half was much better as he kept trying to create chances for his teammates. A rare miss. Rating: 6

Rodrygo

There was a lot of talk about Rodrygo's fitness and the way he could play under Xabi Alonso because of how much he believes in the Brazilian, but it wasn't to be. He worked hard defensively, but in possession, Rodrygo did not provide a whole lot. Sometimes he was isolated, other times he just did not do enough. He did have the assist to Real Madrid's first, though. So fair play. Rating: 6.5

Gonzalo Garcia

A brilliant showing from Garcia, who scored a goal to give Real Madrid the lead in his first start for the senior team. He worked hard, and was one of Real Madrid's most dangerous players in terms of both pressing and shooting. Had so many chances to score a winner. Good performance, hopefully one of many. Rating: 8

Vinicius Jr

Was played through on goal by Bellingham but instead of going through he earned a yellow card for diving, which did not seem to be the case. Poor first half, but Vinicius Jr did start a lot better in the second, constantly going at defenders and putting good crosses in, but was still not the same Vinicius Jr that Real Madrid fans love. Rating: 6

Substitutes

Arda Guler

Great introduction as he hit the post minutes after coming on. Distributed the ball around well but sometimes held onto it for too long. Had some really nice passes. Rating: 6.5

Brahim Diaz

Did not contribute a whole lot but was not a net negative, either. Rating: 6

Lucas Vazquez

Replaced Trent, and was heavily involved without much contribution. Rating: 6

Victor Munoz

Replaced Vinicius Jr on the left wing. Rating: 6

Luka Modric

Was subject to a lot of cheers when he came on, and did well. Rating: 6
