Real Madrid’s 3-2 loss against Barcelona in the Spanish Supercopa has led to Xabi Alonso being sacked. Although it was a close game in terms of the scoreline, in reality, Los Blancos were far from their best. The team lacked control in midfield and also missed a handful of chances to score, which hurt them dearly in the end.

As a result, Alonso is no longer in charge and has been replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa. The Spanish tactician joined the team at the beginning of this season as the new manager, bringing hope among fans that the team would lift trophies again after a trophyless campaign.

But there were mixed feelings regarding Alonso’s management, and Madrid have listened to the outside noise and parted ways. The winter transfer window is open, and one can’t help but wonder if there will be any movement from the club on that front after dismissing the Spaniard.

The possibility of Florentino Perez signing someone is close to none. However, to bring in funds for the summer, the club could let go of some of their players. In fact, Madrid could make a cutthroat decision about one player’s future that won’t please fans, after a Premier League club has reportedly placed a bid for him.

Alonso might not be the only Real Madrid departee

Fichajes (via Give Me Sport) reported that Tottenham have tabled a €60 million bid for Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz. The Moroccan player is currently away representing his nation at the AFCON. He will be back soon and rejoin the squad.

However, with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo both returning to form, he is expected to find it difficult to secure a regular place in the squad. Moreover, Franco Mastantuono is another youngster Alonso put his trust in on multiple occasions this season.

So theoretically, Diaz could be allowed to leave to get more minutes on the pitch. This would also mean Madrid could use those funds to strengthen other areas, especially midfield and defence, which clearly need reinforcements.

That said, Diaz has had moments of brilliance in the Royal White jersey and can operate in a number of positions, including both wings as well as the attacking midfield role.

It is now up to Perez and the club management to decide which direction they want to take. That said, these are just speculations, and nothing has been made official yet, including the reported bid. Fans will have to wait and see where Diaz’s future lies, if this is indeed true.
