Despite Real Madrid showing an interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold, don't be surprised if Los Blancos end up with another Liverpool defender in the summer too.

Over the past few years, Real Madrid and Liverpool have formed a new-age rivalry. Given Real Madrid's continued domination of Europe, it has come at the expense of Liverpool. Therefore, the two respected European giants have formed a disliking of each other.

Of course, Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos certainly added fuel to this fire. In the Champions League final, he injured Mohamed Salah. Many claim that this injury occurred on purpose but only Sergio Ramos knows the answer to that.

Nevertheless, the rivalry between Liverpool and Real Madrid has taken a new turn this season. The two clubs obviously met in the Champions League group stage but more importantly, they are meeting quite commonly in the transfer market.

Already, Real Madrid have shown a keen interest in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold when his Liverpool contract expires in the summer. Similarly, Liverpool have targeted Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid.

Now, there is a new name being thrown into the mix.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Real Madrid have shown an interest in signing Ibrahima Konate. At the moment, we are only in the "interest" stage as Real Madrid have not tested the waters yet.

Indeed, Liverpool are less concerned about Ibrahima Konate than they naturally would be with Trent Alexander-Arnold. This is because they are actively working on Konate's new contract and the Reds remain confident an agreement can be struck with his agents soon.

Unlike Trent, Konate still has another whole season on his contract. His deal at Anfield Stadium does not expire until the summer of 2026, so Liverpool have time to work this one out. Nevertheless, they are understandably being more proactive here.

Perhaps the complicated situation of Trent Alexnader-Arnold, which looks set to bring him to Real Madrid, has inspired the Merseyside club to take a more efficient approach to their contract renewals.
