This season, Real Madrid's defense has been a major problem. Players have been injured more often than they have been added.
After a recent operation, Antonio Rudiger will recover till the end of the season. David Alaba is in a similar situation. Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are making every effort to be available for the forthcoming Club World Cup. Conversely, Lucas Vazquez is essentially nonexistent.
Stated differently, the situation is dire. One player who fortunately and timely benefited the squad was Raul Asencio, who came out of the academy as one of the most promising players in recent years. The defense's other aspects remain highly uncertain.
However, one name has not yet been taken into consideration. There is also Jesus Vallejo on the bench who doesn't get picked enough. In fact, he doesn't get picked at all.
Real Madrid plan to give an unusual contract extension to Vallejo
This season, Vallejo has played the fewest minutes of any player on the first team. The fact that he has only played 10 minutes this season speaks volumes about how much the coach and the squad depend on him.
He is only there to let his contract expire and then depart. Here's the problem, though. His contract expires at the end of June, which coincides with the start of the FIFA Club World Cup in that same month.
Vallejo will have to quit Real Madrid in the middle of the competition if his contract expires as it does now. According to Diario AS, Real Madrid are thinking of offering the center back a two-week contract extension in order to help him avoid feeling abandoned and saddened by the team.
Additionally, they believe that he shouldn't pass up the chance to add a hypothetical trophy to his collection.
However, the player's circumstances have not changed. He will depart shortly since neither the club nor the coaching staff trust him.
