Real Madrid could bring back former manager when Carlo Ancelotti leaves

Carlo Ancelotti's situation at Real Madrid is becoming increasingly precarious. He does not appear to have a definite favorite future in Madrid, and suitors for him have already begun to press.

After the humiliation against Arsenal, Ancelotti's position is clearly in jeopardy, and rightly so. This season, the manager has failed on every front, including tactics and player management. He has leaned too heavily on the most unreliable players while giving too little to those who were supposed to do well.

His approaches have often shown to be outmoded. On the other side, executives from the Brazilian national team are continuously pressuring the manager to sign as quickly as feasible. They oppose deferring the signing till the Club World Cup and prefer to have the manager in place right now.

Former manager with bad record could handle Real Madrid in an interim role

It has been said several times that Xabi Alonso is Real Madrid's sole choice following Ancelotti's departure. The Bayer Leverkusen manager has certainly pleased those in charge at Madrid, who see no other option.

If Ancelotti leaves at the end of the season, or perhaps before, the intention is to bring in Alonso right away. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, if the Spanish manager is unable to arrive on time, Real Madrid will appoint an interim manager for the Club World Cup.

According to the journalist, the interim manager may be Santiago Solari, a former Los Blancos manager who has had a less than stellar record.

The Argentine led the senior squad for a brief spell during the 2018-19 season, and it was one of the most disappointing stretches of play I've seen from Real Madrid in recent years. The manager is obviously not good.

I'm not sure about even the temporary job. If Solari returns for a second brief time, I'll be watching solely in pursuit of Xabi Alonso.
