The new Xabi Alonso era at Real Madrid is well and truly underway. The club is undergoing a number of changes at the hand of the new manager as he looks to build his ideal squad for the future.
A number of veteran players have departed the club this summer for the next step of their careers as they are replaced by new younger players who are expected to be key figures of the future going forward.
However, there are still a few veteran players who have managed to remain at the club through this new young revolution. One of those veteran players is defender David Alaba. Many fans may have forgotten about the 33-year-old but he is still at the club, however, he may not be for much longer.
David Alaba needs to leave Real Madrid immediately
As being reported by AS, Real Madrid are hoping to offload David Alaba this summer in an effort to free up squad space and reduce the wage bill as the defender is no longer part of the clubs plans.
Alaba arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 for free after leaving Bayern Munich and was one of the teams most important players. However, a series of long-term injuries has derailed his career, leaving him as a candidate to leave this summer.
He currently earns around €12.5 million per year which is a staggering amount for a player who doesn't bring very much to the table anymore. Alaba only made 14 appearances this season and has fallen to nearly the bottom of the defensive pecking order.
However, despite the club's wishes for Alaba to leave, the defender is determined to stay and fight for his place in the team. This is most likely because the Austrian knows he won't get as lucrative of a package at any other top club in Europe.
