Real Madrid are reeling after back to back seasons without a trophy, and while they hope that Jose Mourinho, as he did before more than a decade ago, can pull the Blancos out of the doldrums, it's obvious that there are changes that need to be made to the squad in terms of the quality of the players.

Carlo Ancelotti won the Champions League in 2023/24, but he was already in Florentino Perez's ear about defensive signings. And Dean Huijsen has proven to be inadequate to upgrade an aging core of center backs, including an overrated Antonio Rudiger. And with Eder Militao constantly injured, Real are desperate in that position. They also badly need better control and quality in the midfield after the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, as Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have not made real progress.

There is one more pressing position of need that is a bit quieter than the others. Real Madrid badly miss a true striker like Joselu, who was central to Real Madrid winning the Champions League in 2024, particularly with his performance against Bayern Munich at the death in the semifinals.

Real Madrid are ready for a striker

Real Madrid have Endrick coming back on loan and Gonzalo Garcia scoring whenever Kylian Mbappe isn't stealing his goals and getting in his way, but, per a report from Jorge C. Picon, striker is still one of the positions Real Madrid are interested in signing this summer to make a change, in addition to the obvious needs in the midfieild and defense.

As Mbappe showed the world against Sevilla, he has been a monumental disappointment for Real Madrid, fracturing the team's chemistry, showing no all around ability, providing zero box presence, and mostly feasting on easy teams and scoring penalties than rather taking advantage of all the chances his teammates are giving him. Of late, he has required 15 shots for every goal, which is so bad it puts him in the Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic level of inefficiency.

Real Madrid should be giving Gonzalo Garcia and Endrick chances, but an experienced striker in the Joselu mold with finishing ability, a box presence, and all around quality to bridge the gap and challenge Mbappe would not be contraindicated by any means. In fact, for most Madridistas not blinded by the Mbappe cult of personality, it would be the only wise move, and even before Mbappe's mask fell off, Madridistas were still in favor of a real replacement for Joselu in that role.
