Real Madrid have signed Dean Huijsen, and they are looking for other positions too, which is great. They needed a center-back, and they got one.

Real Madrid have been in the market for a left-back too, and that is something to keep an eye on with regards to Benfica's Alvaro Carreras.

However, what if you could find a player who could play both positions?

Piero HincapiƩ is a solid option for Real Madrid to consider if they wanted one more central defender to join the club next season.

Or at least, he was a solid option. According to many reports, Hincapie was a player Real Madrid liked and wanted, but now, the player has actually talked about the interest live on camera.

It is obviously not confirmed by Xabi Alonso or Real Madrid if they wanted to sign him, but there were promising reports a few weeks ago.

Hincapie has now put those rumors to rest.

When asked about Real Madrid links by a journalist in Ecuador, Hincapie simply smiled and said: "No, no."

I mean, even if he wanted to join, he would not say it out loud out of respect for his current team Bayer Leverkusen.

However, the answer would have been much more open-ended than what Hincapie just said.

It could have been closer to something like "let's see" or "you never know, but I am linked with Leverkusen for now". These sorts of answers are generic, but that is the go-to for any player being linked to another team.

This was a definitive no, meaning that the player is probably not joining Real Madrid. At least, not this season.

I am not massively moved by it, to be absolutely honest. Hincapie would have been a great replacement for David Alaba, and is someone who has a proven record of being reliable in most big games, but Real Madrid have some really good central defenders now.

They will have more coming through when Joan Martinez and Eder Militao from their injury, and that would mean that if Martinez is as good as people say he is, then there is not a massive need for Hincapie to join.

However, saying that, I would still have taken him at the club if that was an option. It's just not a priority in my eyes.
