It's never an easy day to lose a boyhood player, unless you're the team on the receiving end. Thankfully for Real Madrid fans, they have sat back and witnessed yet another free transfer master-stroke. In case you've been living under a rock, I am of course talking about Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Liverpool defender will no longer have that title come the summer. Yes, he'll see out his contract until the end of the season, but recent news from Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the deal is close to completion. The Italian journalist has stated that the first official contract proposal has been made, and the two parties are discussing the details of the contract
Since Liverpool only has Trent Alexander-Arnold under contract until the end of the season, they cannot get a word in edgeways. If Trent has made up his mind to join Real, then the discussions can only take place between Trent and Real, nobody else.
So, Liverpool's pain is Real Madrid's gain. To say pain would be an understatement, the Liverpool fanbase is in complete turmoil right now. Yes, the meltdown is probably up there with the time that Mohamed Salah was injured in the Champions League final.
Trent Alexander-Arnold meltdown at Liverpool is comical for Real Madrid
As fans like to do in such circumstances, social media has been a complete frenzy recently. Liverpool fans have not shied away from making their upset and unrest known. Indeed, despite having every reason to avoid social media, the Reds have turned to it to vent their frustration.
From a Real Madrid perspective, it's been absolutely brilliant. So, here are the best posts from Liverpool fans over the last few days...

Of course, Liverpool fans couldn't help but involve Sergio Ramos in the conversation. This fan posted a headline by GiveMeSport which read "Liverpool's Harvey Elliott refused to meet Sergio Ramos when Real Madrid tried to sign him" and added the caption "Take notes Trent."
Even though Ramos hasn't played for Real Madrid since 2021, he is still in Liverpool's head. That's the sign of a brilliant defender.
He knew he wouldn't win titles at Liverpool, like Trent do.

He knew he couldn't be paid in that time in Liverpool, like Trent is and could be.
He knew he couldn't be managed by Slot, Klopp and have exciting projects like Trent is.
He knew he had to play with Degen, Poulsen,β¦ pic.twitter.com/oWeHfANBCP
This situation has understandably brought Steven Gerrard back into the limelight. The former Liverpool midfielder is a club legend at Anfield Stadium, for good reason. However, since he's being mentioned in the same conversation as Trent, can we not forget that even Gerrard handed in a transfer request at Liverpool?
I no longer have to pretend that Trent can defend and isnβt a system player?

Fans are now excited that they don't have to "pretend that Trent can't defend," which is great news for Real Madrid fans, who can watch Trent become a great defender. It'd be even better if Trent was learning to defend from, you guessed it, Xabi Alonso. The jokes write themselves.
