Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa has given Hansi Flick a taste of his own medicine after Barcelona suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid. The Catalans were well beaten at the Metropolitano and conceded all four goals in the first half.

Shambolic defending from the visitors was on display throughout the game and it is a massive setback for Flick. He was full of confidence in his pre-match press conference and even took the opportunity to mock Real.

Flick was asked about a lack of La Liga opposition on his side's journey to the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Atleti. He responded, "Ask Real Madrid."

This was a dig at Real's shock 3-2 loss to Seguna Division outfit Albacete in the tournament's Round of 16. But he has been made to regret those words following his side's heavy defeat against Atleti.

Arbeloa hits back at Flick

Real can pile even more pressure on Barca following their loss to Atleti when they face Real Sociedad on Saturday (February 14th). A win at the Bernabeu will see Arbeloa's men move ahead of their El Clasico rivals until at least Monday when the Catalans face Girona.

Arbeloa was asked about the Blaugrana's defeat against Diego Simeone's men ahead of the Sociedad game. He couldn't help but mock Flick's jibe (via Madrid Xtra):

"Barcelona’s 4-0 loss? Ask Flick’s Barcelona.”

Arbeloa has come under scrutiny for his interview approach since replacing Xabi Alonso in early January. The Spaniard often defends his players and takes the blame for any defeat and some feel he overprotects his superstars.

The 44-year-old's response has gone down well with Madridistas who were in hysterics. This comes after Vinicius Junior was pictured laughing when he was told about the result last night.

'Legend' - Real Madrid fans react to Arbeloa's comment

Madrid fans were in hysterics hearing their manager respond to Flick in such fashion. It feels like the El Clasico rivalry is getting heated amid a closely fought title race and it will be interesting to see how the two managers interact when they meet in a potential decider on May 10th.

One fan hailed Arbeloa and made a bold claim over him eclipsing Xabi Alonso as a club legend:

"Thought it was a parody account lmao. If he wins the league, he’s already a bigger legend than Alonso could ever be."

Another called the Spanish coach's respond 'cold':

Arbeloa just got asked about Barca’s loss. This mf said “ Ask Barcelona”? That’s my coach.
Cold

One supporter alluded to Flick's tactical approach that ended in embarrasment:

"Arbeloa just served them the coldest plate of 'not my problem' Ask Flick how that high line felt last night."

This was echoed by another fan:

"Arbeloa with the ice-cold response After Barca's 4-0 horror show vs Atleti, Flick's high line got punished. What a turnaround from 'ask Real Madrid'—football karma is real. Second leg gonna be wild!"

One suggested he took inspiration from his idol Jose Mourinho:

"Nahhhh did he really say this? He is just like Mourinho, this is hilarious."

Arbeloa will be keen to ensure his Real side are fully focused on the task at hand when they clash with Sociedad. Flick's constant mention of Los Blancos might have served as somewhat of a distraction given the aftermath of the nightmare outing against Atleti.
