Real Madrid did not have the best of seasons, in all honesty. They struggled in every single competition they were in, and ended up losing them in horrible fashion.
Honestly, even though Barcelona were really good, on a good day, Real Madrid could have given them a fight. That good day never came, though. Maybe that will happen with Xabi Alonso's return - given he gets the players he wants.
There are a number of departures coming Real Madrid's way. Lucas Vazquez and Luka Modric are leaving the club. Jesus Vallejo too.
But there is a name in the squad that has been linked with a move out for the last three years, but has never had a better season than what he just had.
Dani Ceballos has not been great for Real Madrid for most of the last three or four years, but things changed this time out.
He played really well, became a point of reference within the team in a dark stage, and just replaced Toni Kroos' volume passing in the best way he could have. However, there are a few fans who still want him out despite the performances.
Real Madrid fans want unsung hero out despite great season
One fan on X said [in French]: "His match against Barcelona was unforgivable. I say goodbye."
Another said: "he's incredibly average and isn't good enough to be a starter for us. If he isn't good enough to be a starter, I'd rather an academy product was given a chance."
While I get the sentiment solely around his inconsistencies, it is foolish to say Ceballos has not had a great season. Yes, he may not be a starter, but he has played well this season. Well enough to rightfully keep his place in the squad.
Real Madrid are losing a lot in Luka Modric, Ceballos - when he was in form before his injury - was the closest we got to a volume passer. It is tough to find them nowadays, and although Ceballos was really poor post injury, that does not mean he is poor in general.
In fact, Real Madrid's best games of the season - in the wins over Manchester City - Ceballos was out there running the show. He was an important piece.
I get that people do not rate him highly - many times, that is fair - but there is no objective way of saying he should be sold. Ceballos had the best season he has had in a long time, and that should continue.
