Real Madrid would like to sign William Saliba from Arsenal. However, the Spanish capital has been handed a significant transfer blow.

Real Madrid have started the season well. They are yet to lose a La Liga game, one of only two teams who are unbeaten after nine games this season.

Los Blancos have also conceded just six goals this season. This is a tally which can only be bettered by their local rivals Atletico Madrid (5).

So, Real Madrid's defence is looking in tip-top condition. Or at least, it would appear that way at face value. Looking into the defence in more depth, though, it is clear to see that improvements could be made from a depth and longevity perspective.

Real Madrid handed a significant William Saliba transfer blow

Real Madrid would like to sign William Saliba from Arsenal. They have made no secret of their desire, with Le10Sports even claiming that William Saliba is a "primary transfer target" for Real Madrid.

However, Arsenal are not currently fazed by Real Madrid's interest in signing William Saliba, as per Express. In fact, they are confident about keeping ahold of him, as he is a pivotal member in Mikel Arteta's long-term plan.

William Saliba is under contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2027. So, Arsenal is in no rush to sell him and even if they did decide to part ways, it would come at a hefty cost for Real Madrid.

The French defender is currently in the form of his life. It is no blip either, as he only seems to improve since breaking into the Arsenal first-team in 2022. Season on season, Saliba has assured himself as a more reliable defender and now, it is a miracle if he puts a foot wrong.

William Saliba could improve the Real Madrid team. In fact, Antonio Rudiger even named the Frenchman as his ideal defensive partner.
