Real Madrid may be transitioning to a new era of the cub. Beyond the transition of the players on the pitch from the three peat era, Real Madrid are starting to mull some real structural changes, even as their product on the pitch has suffered these last two seasons and the team remains without a true long term plan in the manager's seat.

For starters, Real Madrid are, for the first time in a good long while, contemplating the addition of a true sporting director into a structure that has been dominated by president Florentino Perez and his almost de facto sporting director, his right hand man Jose Angel Sanchez aka "JAS".

On top of that, Real Madrid are continuing their tradition of bringing club legends into key executive roles, and the next big time player to join the club's structure could very well be German center midfielder Toni Kroos, who only left the club a couple of seasons ago at the literal top of his game as a Champions League winner and legitimate Ballon d'Or sleeper.

Toni Kroos is coming back

According to a report from Diario AS's chief journalist Jose Felix Diaz, Real Madrid are preparing for Kroos's return to the club next season. They have finalized their decision to have him back on board as a member of the club's hierarchy for 2026/27, helping usher in the new sporting structure.

Although Kroos always stayed low key when asked about returning to football in the future, you could always tell by the way he spoke and saw the game, it would be impossible to keep him away from football with his genuine passion.

Many feel Toni Kroos retired too soon, seeing as how he was the best midfielder in the world in the 2023/24 season alongside teammate Jude Bellingham, as well as, by far, the best player on the German national team despite his age at the summer's European championship.

While Kroos can no longer help Real Madrid on the pitch and is missed badly by a team that cannot control games nearly the same without him, Real should still benefit incredibly from having his footballing brain within the organization, potentially helping scouting new talent while developing existing stars of the future at the Valdebebas.

It will be curious to see what role Florentino Perez has planned for one of his most ingenious signings and one of his greatest ever coaches on the field.
