Real Madrid beat Mallorca 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to make it three wins from three in La Liga before the first international break of the season.
Real Madrid actually scored five goals in the match, but three of them were disallowed. Some may argue that at least two of them were harsh, to say the least.
However, they got the job done, and if there is one player to thank, it is this new signing that they made earlier this season.
Real Madrid needed a left-back as much as anyone in the summer transfer window. They were looking for players to sign, and wanted to improve on Fran Garcia and, in particular, Ferland Mendy, who was awful last season.
Now, Alvaro Carreras has entered the conversation, and he has not just entered it, he's taken it by the scruff of its neck.
Alvaro Carreras has been exceptional for Real Madrid so far
Carreras has been one of Real Madrid's most promising players in the new season, and it is clear that an upgrade was missing and necessary at his position when he was not around.
He essentially saved Real Madrid's win today - a sensational goal line clearance to deny Mallorca of an equaliser late in the game.
Even if you choose to ignore that - though I am not sure why you would - Carreras was one of Real Madrid's best players on the night. He was hugely important in the first goal they scored.
Going forward, he was linking up with his teammates on the left, trying to create chances, and he looked really good doing it.
On the other end, he was constantly just there. Defensively, there are no questions that can be asked about his performance on that flank, and even though Mendy wants to be known for his defensive work, Carreras is light years ahead.
This performance was something not out of the ordinary. He has fit like a glove ever since he joined Real Madrid, and my feeling is that he is only going to get better with time and more minutes next to his new teammates.
Real Madrid fans were sceptical about signing him, especially when Miguel Gutierrez was available for a much cheaper transfer fee. However, Carreras has shown in these first few games that there is more to him than meets the statistics. He may not rack up assists, but he is simply just there, every single time, wherever you need him.
