Although the Real Madrid fan base is fractured and divided along a highly volatile fault line named "Kylian Mbappe" with dangerous peak and valleys, the toxic arguments pitting Vinicius Junior and Mbappe against each other, which may be fueled further by the notorious mole in the background, don't really seem to add up when watching how often Vini Jr. tries to look for Mbappe on the pitch for assists or his demeanor with the Frenchman.
And more importantly, the Real Madrid front office is not interested in choosing between Vinicius Jr. and Mbappe right now, even as it is actually Vini who would be closer to an exit with just one year remaining on his contract.
But Vinicius Jr. is one of the best proven stars in the Champions League knockouts today and was central to two UCL triumphs, while Mbappe is the great obsession of Florentino Perez and a player with the upside to be the best in the world.
Jose Mourinho needs to make it work
Jose Mourinho does not like to cow tow to star players, and many Real Madrid fans feel he will absolutely light into Mbappe if he does not run or work for the team and instead puts himself first, which has been the accusation that has plagued him throughout his highly accomplished career.
According to a report from Diario AS, via the Madrid Zone, Real Madrid are, once again, making it crystal clear that they are not in the business of selling either Vinicius Junior or Kylian Mbappe despite the cries from some within their own fan base to get rid of one or the other. They have told Mourinho in no uncertain terms that his No. 1 priority in taking this job right now is to make things work between Mbappe and Vinicius: that is the divine edict from the desk of Florentino Perez. Real Madrid continue to believe that the focus of the sporting project is built around the individual brilliance of thes two.
While, on paper, Mbappe and Vinicius don't seem to mesh because they are both left footers who want to score goals, be a key part of every play, take defenders on, and cut inside on their right foot, we have seen stars of overlapping skill sets excel at Real Madrid all the time. But it takes two people willing to play for each other, which is not what we are seeing from Mbappe in Madrid, just as was the case in Paris.
And that is why Real Madrid hired Jose Mourinho. He has gotten better players than Mbappe like Karim Benzema, Samuel Eto'o, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to play like absolute lions at the striker position with no plays off and no ego. That's his key task now, to do the same with Mbappe and get through the talented Frenchman's head that this is what he needs to do to win.
