Everyone at Real Madrid loves Dean Huijsen. He has simply been one of the most impressive players on the team since he joined in May earlier this year.
His Club World Cup performances came as a shock to many as to how comfortable he can be with the ball, and as the new season has started, his on-ball stuff (as well as his defending) has only become more impressive.
Of course, there have been a few blips here and there. The red card against Borussia Dortmund was completely unavoidable. He was great throughout that entire game, until the end when he messed things up for himself and the team.
Huijsen also had a red card against Real Sociedad in their last La Liga match, which was more unlucky than anything as, in my opinion, it was not a red. A foul, a yellow - sure - but not a red.
But, that was a silly challenge to make in such a risky situation, regardless of the color of the card.
He was also not at his absolute best against Marseille, at least, according to another writer here. That said, there has been a player who has quietly been even more consistent than Dean Huijsen.
Álvaro Carreras has been Real Madrid's most consistent player
Real Madrid has found a brilliant player in Álvaro Carreras. We are not going to say he has been better than Huijsen, or has higher highs than the Spanish international. He has just had greater consistency in his back pocket ever since he joined the club.
Carreras has probably been Real Madrid's most consistent player over the last few weeks. That does not mean the best player, but the fall-off from the best version of himself, if there is any, has been negligible at best.
Carreras was once again brilliant against Marseille - probably second best to Aurelien Tchouameni - putting in some high-Q defensive plays to keep Marseille's attackers relatively quiet.
Going forward, he offered support to Rodrygo (or Vini Jr, whoever was there) and was just performing at a very high level on a consistent basis.
It was good to see from a full-back at Real Madrid, much more on the left, because that has been the club's weakest position for a few years now. I am glad someone decided to sort it out.
Huijsen has been the more impressive player over the course of his Real Madrid career so far, but has also had a couple of lows that were noticeable enough to put Carreras forward as the slightly more consistent player.
It is like comparing two delicious food items - you just cannot complain. This is brilliant to watch at Real Madrid.
