Real Madrid have been reported to a lot of moves lately. One is the potential transfer of current Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold. They have also been heavily linked with Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen lately as they look for more central defenders for the foreseeable future.
Real Madrid also have some of the very best midfielders in the world right now. Some of them are already the best in their respective positions like Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde, while others have the potential to become the best in their position, like Eduardo Camavinga and Arda Guler.
Well, according to new reports coming from all over Spain, Real Madrid have shown interest in yet another midfielder now, and apparently, they are leading the race for him as well.
Real Madrid are 'leading the race' for Martin Zubimendi, who is also wanted by Arsenal
As reported by COPE, Real Madrid have shown interest in signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer. They are willing to pay the release clause for the midfielder as well.
Zubimendi was heavily linked with Arsenal for the majority of the early months of 2025, and it was widely reported that the player was interested in the move. However, since then, Real Madrid have come in. They reportedly are big fans of the player and want to sign him as soon as possible.
There were a host of Premier League clubs that were interested in Zubimendi, but, according to the reports in Spain, they have all realised that Real Madrid have a better chance of signing him this summer.
This signing is not a complete necessity in the positional sense, of course. Real Madrid already have Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga who can play at Zubimendi's position.
The tweet also says that the signing would go in line with the possible arrival of Xabi Alonso, and it would make a lot of sense to have a player like Zubimendi play under the manager if it happens.
It remains to be seen what happens, but Zubimendi is definitely good enough to play for Real Madrid and he provides some qualities that not many players at the club have.
