Much of the transfer talk surrounding Real Madrid this summer was about which midfielder the club was going to bring in after years of midfield struggles. The club has been linked with almost every midfielder imaginable, however they still have yet to pull the trigger on making a signing. Real Madrid seemed to have given up on the top midfield target, however, there are still some pushing to bring one of the World Cup's best midfielders to the Bernabeu this summer.

As being reported by MadridXtra on X, some leaders within the Real Madrid hierarchy are still pushing to sign Rodri this summer, with the Spaniard still viewed as the missing piece that Real Madrid needs to solidify their midfield. Signing Rodri was ruled off the table last month, but after his strong World Cup campaign, Real Madrid are once again back in for the 30-year-old.

Real Madrid haven't given up on Rodri just yet

It had been reported last week that Real Madrid had made up their mind and decided to stick with the group of midfielders already at the club and were not looking to sign anyone new, but as usual in the world of football things can change fast. After ruling out move for Rodri due to a number of factors, some within the club seem to have had a change of heart and now want to move back in for the Manchester City midfielder.

Rodri didn't have the best season for Manchester City and after dealing with injuries over the last few years, Real Madrid believed moving on from their interest in him was the best call for the club. However, his World Cup campaign has changed everything. Rodri has arguably been Spain's best player and looks back to his best pulling the strings in the midfield and was far and away the best player on the pitch in Spain's semi-final win over France, single-handedly running the show.

The Spaniard's performance against France was reminiscent of a classic Toni Kroos performance which is exactly what Real Madrid has been lacking the last few years, and with Jose Mourinho set to build his midfield around Jude Bellingham, bringing in a player like Rodri to partner with Tchouameni to allow Bellingham to push more forward may just bring the perfect balance as we saw with the Kroos-Casemiro-Modric midfield trio.

Rodri was rumored to be close to extending his contract at Manchester City, but should Real Madrid come in with an offer somewhere in the €50 million range, it could be enough to get a deal done before Los Blancos take the pitch for their season opener in August.
