Real Madrid have already signed four high profile players for new manager Jose Mourinho this summer. The defensive trio of Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries all figure to play key roles immediately, and Manchester City veteran midfielder and right winger Bernardo Silva will be a key squad player and favorite of Mourinho's with his work ethic and leadership.
But in order to keep signing big players, Real Madrid are going to have to make some sales. One of the players they have kicked around selling this summer with a buy back clause, as is customary for academy products, is striker Gonzalo Garcia, the only pure No. 9 profile in the squad. Then, Real would consider signing a more experienced goal scorer to back Kylian Mbappe up.
However, many Real Madrid fans would not be in favor of selling Garcia. Since getting his first opportunity under Xabi Alonso at the Club World Cup last year, Garcia has been startlingly efficient in front of goal, needing fewer shots to convert his opportunities than even Mbappe, the Pichichi winner of La Liga two years running.
Real Madrid might not make a major sale
According to a report from Rodra P of ESPN Deportes, via the Madrid Zone, Gonzalo Garcia actually has a shot at staying at Real Madrid after all this summer. Despite rampant rumors stating that he is available for an eye watering 60 million euro transfer fee, it is still uncertain if Real Madrid want to sell the young striker.
The choice will ultimately be up to Jose Mourinho, but it seems like Garcia does not have much interest in leaving despite being cooped up on the bench behind one of the biggest names in world football in Kylian Mbappe.
Garcia is not the best athlete, but his instincts, finishing chops, aerial ability, and willingness to run for his teammates and play with them have even made some Madridistas wonder if the team would look better with Garcia at the 9 than Mbappe. And he has been so promising that he even nearly made the Spanish national team squad when no other Real Madrid player (well besides Marc Cucurella now) made Luis de la Fuente's final squad.
Como and Borussia Dortmund have been linked to Garcia, but since Real Madrid want 60 million euros and a buy back clause of 120 million euros, it is hard to see teams mostly known for signing affordable up and comers going for him anyway.
