Given Real Madrid are one of the biggest clubs in the world, they tend to sign a lot of players in any given year. Some are signed as some of the best established players in Europe and others are signed as teenagers, who are developed over the years to become key players for Real Madrid in the future.
However, sometimes the club signs a youngster with high expectations who is expected to be the next big thing who never really finds their footing at Real Madrid and spend the majority of their time elsewhere in Europe.
This is exactly the case with Real Madrid midfielder Reinier. The much forgotten about player was signed by Real Madrid for €30 million, beating out strong competition from other European giants like Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.
Reinier and Real Madrid have never clicked in his time at the club and both parties are looking to settle his future this summer, with one clear landing spot popping up for the Brazilian.
€30 million Real Madrid flop gaining interest from South America
As being reported by The Athletic's Mario Cortegana, Real Madrid flop Reinier is set to train with Real Madrid Castilla as the club looks to sort out his future, with a return to Flamengo on the table.
The Brazilian was signed from Flamengo as a teenager before the 2019/20 season and has never made an appearance for the senior team. Since his signing he has had loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Giroa, Frosinone, and Granada. Reinier's contract expires in 2026 and both the club and his representatives are working on the next step in his career.
Original reports suggested there could be a mutual contract termination given the lack of offers for the 23-year-old, however, that has now been ruled out as his former club Flamengo is showing interest in his return.
The situation is clear: Reinier is not the player Real Madrid want, and he has no place in the team. The midfield is stacked, and there is already too much competition on the wings. The best option would be to sell him.
When new manager Xabi Alonso arrived at Real Madrid,Reinier was never expected to be part of his plans going forward thus the only thing that makes sense is that the two parties part ways. Los Blancos are unlikely to get back much of the €30 million they paid for the player, however at this point something is better than nothing to seal Reinier's transfer to Flamengo.
