Real Madrid’s current season is among the worst in recent times. Last week, they lost to their rivals Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, which was the only competition where they didn’t have to depend on others for a win.

Los Blancos also lost against Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, ending their European campaign.

That leaves La Liga as the only remaining trophy within reach for Real Madrid, though it comes with its own set of challenges as Barcelona hold a four-point lead at the top and a far superior goal difference.

So Real Madrid could end the season without a major trophy for the first time since the 2020–21 season, and for only the second time in the last decade.

However all might not be lost for Los Blancos just yet. Real Madrid can still turn things around and overtake Barcelona’s supposed peak year.

Real Madrid could still win LaLiga this season

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been rivals for as long as anyone can remember. Both these teams fight for superiority over one another each and every season. Notably, it had been skewed in Madrid’s favour over the past few seasons.

After an elongated rough patch due to Lionel Messi’s departure and financial difficulties, Barcelona were all set to start a new era with the appointment of Hansi Flick.

The Culers were enthusiastic and on top of the world after reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League, dreaming of winning the treble.

The Culers even went so far as to mock Real Madrid after their loss to Arsenal, despite the fact that the Merengues had won the Champions League just last year.

However, the Culers’ premature celebrations have been cut short after their latest defeat to Inter Milan in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

So forget about a treble, Barcelona may well be left with only the Copa del Rey as their major trophy win this season.

If Real Madrid win the upcoming El Clasico on May 11th, they’ll reduce the gap with Barcelona to just one point in the league. From there, Madrid need to win all three remaining games which will put immense pressure on Barcelona and Real Madrid will have a chance to clinch the LaLiga in case Barcelona fumbles under pressure.

In that scenario, Real Madrid will end up with a LaLiga title under their belt in their off season and Barcelona will end up with only the Copa del Rey as their major trophy win in their supposed peak season.

Having said that, Real Madrid are yet to win any of the El Clasicos this season. However, the last time they faced Barcelona, it was a close matchup and Madrid played some really good football.

They will have to replicate and improve on that performance to have a chance of picking up a win against Barcelona this time.

Los Blancos will surely push for a win as there won’t be a better opportunity than this one to turn things around.
