Real Madrid have reportedly made a concrete move to sign a Liverpool midfielder who has been one of the Premier League's best performers. A new creative outlet is needed at the Bernabeu amid a frustrating season for several midfielders.

Florentino Perez might have appointed a new manager by the time the summer transfer window opens. That could be former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who remains the favorite to take charge on a permanent basis should Alvaro Arbeloa leave at the end of the season.

Arbeloa has reportedly been advising the board over his squad despite the uncertainty over him staying on in the job. He has told them to consider selling Eduardo Camavinga who has been linked with the Premier League giants.

It appears that Madrid have their sights set on Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to bolster their midfield. The Hungarian has been superb this season, posting nine goals and seven assists in 34 games across competitions.

According to Topskills Sports UK, Los Blancos 'officially contacted' the Reds today (February 14th) to inquire about Szoboszlai. They are keeping tabs on his contract situation which is complicated due to both parties failing to agree on a new deal thus far.

Szoboszlai is said to be "genuinely interested" in making the move to the Bernabeu and is "highly doubtful" about a contract extension. His current deal runs until 2027 meaning he'll have a year left on his contract this summer.

Madrid have already been reported to be considering using Camavinga in a potential deal. A possible proposal would be to offer the Merseyside giants the Frenchman along with £30m (€34.5m).

Jurgen Klopp is a Szoboszlai fan

Klopp was in charge at Anfield when Szoboszlai arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for €70m. This was his final season managing Liverpool before calling time on a nine-year reign.

The German spoke glowingly of the Hungarian playmaker's qualities during that campaign. He said (via One Football): "His first touch is incredible and then he sees Mo (Salah)... it was good we had this genius football moment to finish the game off."

Szoboszlai's versatility has been of massive use to Liverpool especially this season with the Reds dropping out of the title race. He is a central midfielder by trade but can play in attacking midfield and at right-back.

Klopp's potential appointment could play a key role in a pursuit of the Hungarian given he was the one who brought him to Merseyside. It would be some way for the German to kickstart a new era at the Bernabeu.
