At the start of the 2021/22 season, Real Madrid raised some eyebrows with their decision to bring back head coach Carlo Ancelotti to replace the departing Zinedine Zidane. Many thought the Italian was heading towards the end of his legendary coaching career and was past his prime. At that point, he was managing Everton in the Premier League.
However, since returning to Real Madrid, Ancelotti has proven to the world that Los Blancos made the right decision in bringing him back, He has guided the team to ten total trophies including two La Liga titles and two Champions League winning campaigns.
All that being said, Ancelotti is getting older, and this season results have been inconsistent compared to the last three campaigns. With some starting to grow skeptical of Ancelotti's ability to keep coaching at the highest level, Real Madrid have decided on their favorite candidate to replace the Italian icon this summer.
Real Madrid pick their favorite to replace Carlo Ancelotti next summer
As reported by Onda Cero, Real Madrid have pick Xabi Alonso as their preferred replacement for Carlo Ancelotti as the Italian legend has decided to leave this summer.
Rumors linking Alonso to Real Madrid are nothing new and have been going on for well over a year. The Spaniard has worked wonders in his time at Bayer Leverkusen helping guide the team to their first ever Bundesliga title last season, as well as a victory in the DFB Pokal and runners up in the Europa League.
Alonso and his men got off to a slow start this season but recently have found their form again and they now sit just four points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
However, Real Madrid bringing in Alonso may not be as straightforward as some may expect. Alonso has also been linked with clubs like Liverpool and Bayern Munich in the past, and with the manager being available without a transfer fee, there will no doubt be a heavyweight battle among top clubs to secure Alonso for their future.
