Real Madrid's Endrick decision will be music to Kylian Mbappe's ears

Real Madrid will have their next Brazilian phenom Endrick back when the 2026/27 season begins, and the forward is already back at the Valdebebas, training and working hard for the next season. After how little Xabi Alonso used him in the first half of the last season, Endrick will have an extra chip on his shoulder, and there are already rumblings that Jose Mourinho and the club are excited to give him an important role in the upcoming campaign.

But even though Kylian Mbappe has been ruffling feathers and playing pretty poorly in recent months, Real Madrid are not yet prepared to have the teenager competing with the French World Cup winner for the starting striker job.

According to a report from Diario AS, via the Madrid Zone, Real Madrid actually see Endrick as a right winger, and they are going to make him one of the options at that position, perhaps taking advantage of the fact that he is a left footer.

Real Madrid have a missing piece in the front three

Real Madrid have two other left footed phenoms in Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono. But Mastantunono, despite being Xabi Alonso's choice over Endrick on the wing, really struggled there and needs to go on loan himself in 2026. Guler, meanwhile, is a much better fit in midfield, where he has now become one of Los Blancos most important players.

The thing is, Real Madrid really need a solution on the right wing. They have nobody. The only option other than Endrick would actually be Rodrygo Goes, but he is coming off an ACL tear with an unclear time table for a return.

Endrick, though, is a better striker than a right winger, which is even something Paulo Fonseca and Lyon found out, as he was one of the best players in Ligue 1 as a center forward but was not able to have as much influence on the games out on the periphery.

Kylian Mbappe will love this news a lot, given Endrick won't be a threat to his playing time if Real Madrid are making him more of a right winger. But that is only the initial plan. Should Endrick impress more in the middle than on the right - and he should still get some chances at a center forward, especially spelling Mbappe in the Copa del Rey - while Mbappe falters, then Jose Mourinho will be far more likely to pull the trigger on a switch than maybe another manager would.
