Scoring goals has never been a problem for Real Madrid. It was not a problem last season without Kylian Mbappe, and it is not this season with the Frenchman among their ranks.
However, there is one thing that needs to be noted. Scoring goals is not a problem, but conceding them is. Real Madrid concede a lot of them, and because of that, what they are able to score is not enough.
Look at Barcelona. They have conceded more league goals than Real Madrid this season, and yet, no one talks about their lacklustruous defense. That is because they score so many goals on the other end of the pitch, that it does not matter.
Real Madrid miss a Joselu
Real Madrid should definitely try to improve their defensive structure, but they also need to improve their attack. There is a certain profile missing, and if Real Madrid had that, they would have scored at least 15-20 more goals this season.
Real Madrid have this habit of getting their wingers and full-backs to push up and cross the ball into the box. Even when there is no target. So many chances crave a tall forward inside the box, but there is no one.
Mbappe is scoring a lot, but he is not the tallest. Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr aren't either, which is why this club needs a striker to come off the bench. Someone similar to Joselu - maybe better - would be perfect for the club.
No one needs to spend 150 million on a striker. That is simply not needed. They just need someone like this that the wingers can play off and play to in tough situations. In situations where they need to score in the last few minutes, or against teams who would force them to cross the ball - Real Madrid need a profile like that.
Vinicius Jr has so many crosses that just sail over the defense without damaging them, just because that one presence is missing.
Maybe a Joselu-type profile would change those things.
