Real Madrid have a very visible category of players who are the most important to their present as well as future project.
One such player is Thibaut Courtois, who is a dedicated starter and probably the most consistent and important player in the squad. The number of times he has saved Los Blancos on some of the most crucial occasions is hardly matched by any other player.
As per Marca, Real Madrid have extended the contract of the Belgian, which was due to expire in June 2026.
According to the report, the goalkeeper will now be tied to Madrid for the next two years, i.e. until the summer of 2027, owing to a one-year extension on his 2026 contract.
The player, too, has always been keen on staying at Real Madrid and has voiced such desire on many occasions.
Thibaut Courtois is the most important Real Madrid player
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if you were to ask mine, Courtois is by far the most important player in the squad. Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe are definitely on the roster, but they do not rival Courtois for the top position, in my opinion.
Despite having reached 33 years of age, by which most major players retire or move to less competitive leagues for the money, Courtois remains the first-choice goalkeeper for Madrid and will continue to be so for the upcoming season.
His recent performance in the Club World Cup clearly reflected the importance he carries. The defense is basically paralysed in his absence, whether that is a good thing or a bad one is a question I’ll leave for you to decide.
But the point is that securing this renewal was the most important thing Real Madrid had to do, and rightfully so.
The rise that Courtois has seen after his tumultuous years with Atletico Madrid and Chelsea, and even in the early days at Madrid, is worthy of recognition, and this extension is a fitting reward.
Jose Felix Diaz of Marca reports that while there was no urgency in securing this extension, Real Madrid promptly sealed the deal and rejected some offers that came in for the goalkeeper last season.
The club’s verdict seems clear: Thibaut Courtois continues to be the most important piece in the set-up, and he is here to stay for at least two more seasons.
Two more years of those blunt interviews, I can only be excited.
