Under the new Xabi Alonso regime, we have already seen a number of changes take place in his so far short time in charge. We have seen a number of veteran players depart the club after their contracts weren't renewed, and new younger players have arrived to lead the new generation of Real Madrid.
Major players of the old generation like Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez have had their time at the club come to an end after their contracts expired. While someone like Modric was still playing at the highest level at the age of 39, Real Madrid are shaping their squad around the younger players.
There are only a handful of players at the club over the age of 30, and once father time starts catching up with them the club tends to let them go. One player in particular, who is 32 and only has one year left on his contract is coming up on a big season for his Real Madrid career, and it seems the club have already made up their mind where his future stands in the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid unlikely to extend veteran amid interest in Liverpool star
As being reported by AS, Real Madrid are unlikely to extend Antonio Rudiger's contract amid their long standing interest in Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate. Rudiger's contract is set to expire next summer and it seems his time at the club is set to come to an end after four seasons.
Rudiger arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 and has had a somewhat up and down time with Los Blancos. He has been easily the best defender during his time with the club but he has also made costly errors in key matches and has dealt with a number of different injuries, limiting his availability at times.
Now 32-years-old the German is expected to face competition for minutes this season from the likes of Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen and even Raul Asencio.
With the club looking to go in the younger direction under new manager Xabi Alonso, it is not surprising that Rudiger could be making way at the end of his contract. Alongside Rudiger, David Alaba's contract also expires next summer, and many expect both players to depart Real Madrid for the next step in their careers.
