It wouldn't be a typical Real Madrid season if they weren't affected by a number of key injuries in the squad. This has been the common theme for Real Madrid in the past several years, which has cost Los Blancos in crucial matches of the season.

This season is no different from the others, as the squad has been riddled with major injuries to key players especially in the defence. Ancelotti has lost almost all of his starting defenders to some sort of injury this season for different amounts of time.

This has forced Ancelotti into playing a makeshift defence in some of the most crucial matches this season to mixed results. Surprisingly, Ancelotti's patchwork backline proved effective in the first leg against Manchester City. While this was a pleasant surprise to fans, Los Blancos may not have to use that backline in the second leg after Ancelotti confirmed some huge injury boosts.

Real Madrid set for triple injury boost ahead of Manchester City second leg

As reported by Yahoo Sports, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the injured trio of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, and Lucas Vazquez are all recovering well and should all be fit for Wednesday's Champions League second leg clash against Manchester City.

All of Rudiger, Alaba, and Vazquez have been dealing with leg muscle injuries for the last few weeks which caused Carlo Ancelotti to deploy a patchwork backline in the first leg against Manchester City.

However, by the time the second leg roles around Real Madrid could now be able to play their best available backline in the mega clash.

One can expect Rudiger and Vazquez to walk back into the starting lineup against Pep Guardiola's side should both of them be declared fit. Ancelotti is expected to be more cautious with Alaba, the Austrian has yet to start a game since his return from a year-long ACL injury so if needed, Alaba could see minutes against Manchester City as a substitute.
