Real Madrid need a midfielder. Or so thinks Xabi Alonso, if reports are to be believed that suggest he has yet to find the last piece of his puzzle: a Toni Kroos replacement.
Rodri of Manchester City had been considered an option, but he looks set to renew with the English club.
Recent speculation linked Los Blancos with Adam Wharton, the rising Crystal Palace midfielder who enjoyed a stellar Premier League season.
However, according to Marca, Real Madrid have no interest in signing Wharton this summer. Nor are they pursuing Rodri at this stage.
Real Madrid sources deny interest in Premier League midfielder
Whether Real Madrid will sign a midfielder in the final week of the transfer window remains uncertain. From the outside, it seems unlikely.
The management considers the squad complete, and Xabi Alonso already has an abundance of midfield options. Moreover, only a week remains before the window closes and nothing substantial has happened so its very unlikely any more signings will be made.
Aurelien Tchouameni is a vital defensive midfielder and is undroppable unless injured.
Arda Guler has seen his importance rise in the eyes of the new coach, while Jude Bellingham is close to returning after shoulder surgery that had been delayed last season. He is already working extensively at Valdebebas.
With this depth, a midfield signing would only make sense if there were major departures.
Dani Ceballos could leave if Real Betis meet the €15 million asking price, but otherwise remains likely to stay. Rodrygo has also attracted little serious interest, making his exit improbable.
As for Wharton, Real Madrid appear to have no plans to move for his signature this summer. So, fans are expected not to think too much about another signing. I think the four that have come are all and enough. No more signings. Real Madrid move with what they have.
