Real Madrid have been thinking about signing a striker ever since Xabi Alonso, their new manager, came knocking.
Real Madrid do not have a profile that Alonso likes; a target man who can bounce off players while running, and become a target for headers inside the box.
There would be no place for that hypothetical striker in Real Madrid's starting lineup, purely because of the brilliant talent the club already boasts in the attack.
That striker would be a good understudy to one Kylian Mbappe - who is set to make his debut under Alonso against Juventus on Tuesday.
Real Madrid needed that striker, but after these three Club World Cup games, it feels like that need has died down a bit.
Xabi Alonso has done something Carlo Ancelotti rarely did
Castilla star Gonzalo Garcia has been exceptional for the first team, and according to AS, Real Madrid have stopped looking for a striker after his emergence - they will promote him to where he is performing like a cheat code right now.
This is something that not many people expected from Real Madrid. From Alonso, everyone did - and well, it has only been three games, and we are already seeing Castilla stars getting promoted to the first team.
For Carlo Ancelotti, it did not happen until he was forced to make this change. Raul Asencio would never have seen gametime if it was not for Eder Militao's injury and Real Madrid's reluctance to sign a striker.
With Alonso, this was never a problem. Real Madrid had other options at striker already, and even if they were injured, he could have made it work with other players in the squad. But the fact that he chose Garcia to lead the line in all three games made complete sense, and that is why Alonso went ofr him.
It is difficult to see how much Garcia will play next season, but if it is anything like the way he is playing now, Endrick may need to start ramping it up as well.
