Real Madrid were able to dispatch Leganes 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu to take the title race to Barcelona once again. It felt like they were going to drop points yet again, but a brace from Kylian Mbappe and a brilliant performance from Jude Bellingham were enough for Real Madrid to get level on points with their arch-rivals.

In the match against Leganes, Mbappe's brace was a bit out of the ordinary. They were not spectacular goals. Neither of them was from open play, but there was something about one of those goals that made history at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has finally scored a free kick

Mbappe's second goal was a free kick, which meant that he has finally scored from one for the first time in his near decade-long career. It is something that he has received criticism for from many people, as he used to try a lot of those when he played for PSG. He has been a subject of memes on X and other social media platforms for his free kicks.

However, all of that will now be put to rest. Mbappe has scored one, and there was no better time to do it than in the 70th minute, when Real Madrid desperately needed some sort of heroics from their best players.

Real Madrid were really struggling - they needed a goal to win the game, and if they had not got one, Los Blancos' title defense would have suffered yet another dent. Mbappe made sure that was not the case, and he also scored a free kick in the process. He got two birds with one stone.

People who are saying that Mbappe's free kick was not a direct one - it was. If that is not a direct free kick, then Toni Kroos' brilliant free kick in the 2018 World Cup - a goal that is often called one of the best free kicks in World Cup history - is not a free kick either. Make your mind up.
