After laboring against Sevilla for much of the game, Real Madrid emerged victorious late in the second half. The hosts were two men down, but for the most part, they did not enable Madrid to score.

The starting lineup was promising, as many players were given opportunities. Some fared decently, while others were expected to do better.

The main goal of these games from now on should be to give as many opportunities to those who have played less while competing for honors, such as Pichichi and Zamora.

Real Madrid player ratings after a struggling display from Seville

GK Andriy Lunin

Lunin didn't have to break much sweat in the first half. Sevilla hardly created any legible threat and whatever challenge came in the second half, the Ukrainian saved it with reliability. Rating: 7

RB Fede Valverde

Not a game that Valverde had to compulsorily start. He was clinical, as always. Solid at the back, and alerted the Sevilla goal a few times. The usual Fede Valverde performance. Rating: 7

CB Jesus Vallejo

Vallejo didn't have to do much work. Was decent in whatever little threat Sevilla created and provided decent passes to the front. Rating: 6

CB Jacob Ramon

Ramon was good defensively. Great tackles and did everything that was needed from him. Good performance for the academy youngster. Rating: 8

LB Fran Garcia

Fran was actually OK. He defended well and also ran a few times ahead to create some chances. Actually a decent performance. Was subbed out later. Rating: 7

RM Arda Guler

Guler showed the promise he always wanted to display. Was skillful coming from the back but could not do much in terms of impact in the final third. Average performance per his own standards. Rating: 6

CM Luka Modric

A good game as always. Provided the assist to break the deadlock and tried throughout the length of the game to help increase the score. Rating: 8.5

CM Aurelien Tchouameni

Tchouameni was OK. Defended well and came close to scoring a few times through corners. Was not much busy, though. Good effort. Rating: 7.5

LM: Jude Bellingham

Scored the second and took a yellow. Bellingham's performance apart from the goal was mostly average. He didn't do much. Or probably didn't have to do much. Rating: 7

CF: Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe was hungry today. He ran throughout the pitch, was eager to bring the ball quickly and created many threats for Sevilla to be worried about. Although he struggled with converting, a brilliant out of the box hit in the 74th minute broke the even score after the 9 man hosts troubled Madrid. He also hit the crossbar a few times and was moslty unlucky. Would have scored 2 more goals. Rating: 8.5

CF: Endrick

Endrick did not do much. Ancelotti is criticized for giving him less minutes but he was trusted with plenty today but the impact was negligible. Rating: 5

Substitutions

CF Victor Munoz

Ran well and played OK. Could have probably done better than Endrick if he came earlier. Rating: 7

AM Gonzalo Garcia

Decent but could do better. Rating: 6

RB Lucas Vazquez

The usual Vazquez performance. Could have started this game though. Rating: 6

CM Dani Ceballos

Came on late. Didn't do much other than a few indecisive passes here and there. Rating: 6
