Real Madrid are interested in signing William Saliba from Arsenal. In the summer, they could "exploit" a transfer market opportunity like no other.

Real Madrid are a club with a knack for securing the best talent in the world. If there is a player impressing, whether it be in La Liga or another top league, Real Madrid are often knocking on their door.

Currently, it is the case with William Saliba. The Arsenal superstar is on Real Madrid's transfer radar as they were linked in the previous summer transfer window and those links remain to this day.

Naturally, though, Arsenal have their guard up and they would not like to lose one of their best players under Mikel Arteta. That said, Real Madrid have a plan in mind.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, William Saliba fits the calibre of player Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid wants. However, they will wait until the summer transfer window to sign him.

The French outlet claims that by the summer, Arsenal will have only two years remaining on Saliba's contract. The key point, though, is that there is no clear option for Arsenal to extend after this point.

Therefore, Los Blancos see this as a perfect opportunity to "exploit" William Saliba's contract situation. They are in no rush, but it is certainly at the back of their mind.

Naturally, William Saliba is focused on Arsenal right now. He does not want to consider his future at this stage, with an uphill battle ahead for the rest of the season.

However, the situation for Saliba might be different at the end of the season. It might depend on Arsenal's silverware, or lack of it. They have come annoyingly close in the last two seasons, so a third time around would be humiliating.

Arsenal are second in the table and their win in the North London Derby this week put them within touching distance of Liverpool. Therefore, at the third time of asking, Mikel Arteta might lift the Premier League title. It is impossible to envision this without William Saliba.

Over the last few seasons, William Saliba has formed comfortably the best centre-back partnership in the world alongside the Brazilian Gabriel Magalhaes. The two defenders are so important to Arsenal that their entire season could crumble with just one injury there.
