Fran Garcia's future at Real Madrid remains doubtful despite the Spanish full-back failing to secure a move to Bournemouth in January. He was all but on his way to England to complete a loan move until the La Liga club pulled the plug.
Reports claim that the 26-year-old was frustrated with Madrid's decision to prevent him from joining Andoni Iraola's side. He asked to train alone and still wants to leave when the transfer window reopens this summer.
If Garcia does depart, then Los Blancos appear to be keen to find a replacement and could turn to a Bundesliga star on Arsenal's radar. Alvaro Carreras arrived at the Estadio Bernabeu last summer and could face fresh competition.
Real Madrid to replace Garcia with Arsenal target
Madrid will be willing swoop for Borussia Dortmund's Daniel Svensson if Garcia leaves the Spanish heavyweights. Defensa Central reports that the Bundesliga giants have placed a €30 million asking price on the versatile Swede.
Svensson is a left-back by trade but can also play in central midfield which will appeal to Los Blancos. He has been a mainstay in Dortmund's team this season, appearing 31 times across competitions, posting three goals and one assist.
The 24-year-old only joined the German side in July 2025 but is also being eyed by Arsenal, Leeds United and Inter Milan. He will have three years left on his contract this summer but a move to the Spanish capital might be enticing.
Fran Garcia might not be the only left-back departure
It's also claimed in the report that Ferland Mendy might be sold this summer amid an injury-plagued spell with Madrid. The French defender has struggled to remain fit and he too could make way for Svensson.
Mendy's current contract with the club expires in 2028 but his lack of availability has been a real concern. Carreras has managed to stay fit for the majority of the season which has helped aid the situation.
The 30-year-old extended his deal in Carlo Ancelotti's last year in charge, and it was the Italian who instructed the club to offer him a renewal. One doctor is alleged to have claimed they believe it is a "miracle" that he's still able to play football due to the seriousness of his injury.
A Madrid rebuild could lead to several veteran stars departing this summer and three will be out of contract. Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba's futures are in doubt heading into the latter stages of the season.
