We are only about three months into the new Xabi Alonso era at Real Madrid and we have already seen a number of changes take place with the team. Players leaving, new players coming in, and a change in tactics and identity have the team looking completely different from under Carlo Ancelotti.

One of the most notable changes under Xabi Alonso is the exclusion of Rodrygo. The attacker was a mainstay in the starting lineup under Carlo Ancelotti, but after only a few matches, it looks as though the Brazilian is not a major part of the new regime's plans.

Rumors have been swirling all summer surrounding Rodrygo's future and whether he'll stay or leave, with many believing his time at the club is likely to come to an end. However, he may be given one last lifeline from Xabi Alonso to secure his future at Real Madrid.

Rodrygo given lifeline to save career at Real Madrid

As being reported by Marca, Real Madrid's upcoming game against Oviedo on Sunday will be key to analyse Rodrygo's future at the club and what role he will play under Xabi Alonso.

Rodrygo has had a less than ideal time so far under Xabi Alonso. The Brazilian played only 92 minutes across the teams five Club World Cup games earlier this summer, three of which he didn't see a single minute. And most recently he was an unused substitute in Real's La Liga opener against Osasuna.

The game against Oviedo could completely alter Rodrygo's career path in the Spanish capital depending on how he performs.

From his perspective, this is an ideal opportunity to show he still belongs. Oviedo are a newly promoted side, and he has the quality and class to cut the opposition open at any given moment.

Whether or not the Brazilian will be able to capitalize on the opportunity remains to be seen, but we have seen what Rodrygo can do when he is at his best. Hopefully the Brazilian is able to bounce back from this slump and show the new manager he belongs in the best team in the world.
