Real Madrid welcomed their new manager Xabi Alonso to the Santiago Bernabeu on Monday morning, and after a very good press conference, it is safe to say many people are excited about Alonso.

Real Madrid want him to do well, Real Madrid fans want him to get the best out of this incredible team, and it will be a fun watch next season.

Real Madrid still need new players. They are trying to sign Alvaro Carreras from Benfica - a transfer that should be done in the next couple of weeks.

They also may need a midfielder after Luka Modric surprisingly announced his decision to move on.

Alonso was asked about this in the press conference, and the answer may have raised a few eyebrows - in a good way, of course.

Xabi Alonso has hinted at needing a new midfielder at Real Madrid

Alonso said: "We always have to improve the team. I want to talk with the club about this."

“In my view, our football must be proactive. We have to control the game."

Well, if this is not an indication that Alonso wants a midfielder, I am not entirely sure what is. It is clear that Real Madrid could use a midfielder next season, and if there is a right profile, they should go for one.

Alonso wants a midfielder to help Real Madrid control games - and, after Toni Kroos, that is a profile that they have missed. Real Madrid have been linked with a bunch of players - one of them being Enzo Fernandez, who is the unlikeliest and the most unattainable option out there.

They are also interested in Angelo Stiller, who could help out a lot in that regard, although it is unsure just how concrete their interest is.

Real Madrid need to sign players to support their new coach, and if they do, and the players buy into it, the club could start another dynasty.
