PSG manager Luis Enrique has claimed that his team is very motivated to equal Real Madrid’s record of winning three Champions League titles in a row.
Enrique’s PSG became the first team since Real Madrid – and the only team apart from the Spanish giants in the Champions League era – to successfully defend their title. They thrashed Inter 5-0 in the 2024-25 final, before beating Arsenal on penalties last season to win their second ever title in this competition.
Enrique was asked about the entire case, and the pressure that comes with it, and he talked about how motivated his players are for it.
He said: “We have a unique challenge, to try and equal Real Madrid’s three-peat. I don’t think anyone else in history has done that apart from Real Madrid. We are very motivated.”

No one in Champions League history has done what Real Madrid have done. Of course, the European Cup was a different story altogether, and there were repeat champions at that point.
But ever since the competition became the Champions League, and the level improved for every big team in Europe, it has been proven many times just how difficult it is to win the trophy in two consecutive seasons.
The added workload of other competitions like the Intercontinental Cup, the Super Cup, the pressure to defend the title as well as the rest of the games to play makes it so difficult to repeat a title like the Champions League, where you have to consistently beat the best teams in the entire continent.
If Real Madrid care about any of it, if they care about their pride and the record they have held for almost a decade, the fate of that record lies in their own hands. If Real Madrid do not want PSG to win the Champions League trophy for the third consecutive time, and take away the one record that no one has achieved apart from Real Madrid, it is well and truly in their hands not to let that happen.
Obviously, a game against PSG will not be guaranteed, but what they can guarantee is how they play. If they play at the top of their powers, there aren’t many teams that are, on paper, better than Real Madrid.
The Champions League pedigree is also fully a thing, and no other team has that to their advantage more than Real Madrid in this competition.
Real Madrid are a club built on morals, values and pride. If they want to keep theirs and show that they are still the Real Madrid of old, they still control their fate. All they have to do is win the Champions League. I know, easy, right?
It’s a lot easier said than done, but if there is one club that would be impacted and motivated by a record like this being snatched from beneath them in a competition they have won 15 times, it is Real Madrid. The floor is yours.
