Everything is pointing towards a reunion of Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid next season. Alonso is a brilliant manager, and has achieved a lot with a Bayer Leverkusen squad that, although it is great, is still overachieving.
He is great, and Real Madrid look set to bringing him to the Santiago Bernabeu at the start of next season to replace Carlo Ancelotti.
Everyone at Leverkusen knows that Real Madrid will come knocking on their door at some point. He wants to coach them, and it has been widely reported that he is the person to take this team to the next level.
Leverkusen and Xabi Alonso have a gentlemen's agreement amid Real Madrid interest
Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro was asked about how it will be should Alonso want to leave for a club in the summer, to which he gave an answer that helps Real Madrid more than anything.
Good news. Real Madrid clearly need Alonso, and Alonso wants to leave Leverkusen for Real Madrid. He stayed at the club for an extra season when clubs like Liverpool and Bayern Munich came calling, to show respect for Leverkusen. But, according to reliable reports, he also told them that if Real Madrid were to ask him to join, he would have to say yes.
This is a brilliant gentlemen's agreement, and something that Fabrizio Romano has talked about in the past as well. Real Madrid will keep pushing, and hopefully, by the start of the Club World Cup, Real Madrid have their new coach.
They may have to wait for another few weeks, but it is getting clearer and clearer every passing day that Alonso will become Real Madrid's next manager.
