It has been two months of football for Real Madrid, and it just does not seem like they have made any improvements from last season. Obviously, they have had a few decent performances, but at the end of the day, they did lose to Atletico Madrid, and they did lose to Real Betis as well. That is why they are now six points behind Barcelona in the league, and we're barely finished with September.
There are a lot of things that Jose Mourinho needs to fix at Real Madrid, and one of them is the lineup that he chooses for the biggest games that Real Madrid plays.
Obviously, there are some players that will be non-negotiable sources right now, though. Based on form, there are some non-negotiable players who simply should not be in the starting XI until they get their form back.
There is, obviously, the elephant in the room: Vinícius Junior, and among other players who just have not produced nearly as much as they are expected to every season. That is exactly why Real Madrid need to change their ways, at least for now.
Here is the ideal Real Madrid lineup that Mourinho should go for, at least in the big games, until some of the stars understand what it is worth to play for a club like Real Madrid.
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois
This is the easiest decision that Jose Mourinho will ever have to make. Courtois is still the best goalkeeper in the world, and he is by far the best at Real Madrid as well. He starts every single game unless he is injured, so there is no discussion here.
Right back Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold has already proven that he is much better than Denzel Dumfries, and it is now time, regardless of the Dutch player's form, for Alexander-Arnold to become the starting right back for Real Madrid. He simply has been better on both ends of the pitch and provides a lot more to Real Madrid than Dumfries can.
Centre-back: Dean Huijsen
Yes, Hausen had a bad performance against Atletico Madrid where he got a red card, but he has still had a brilliant season so far for the club. He looks great with the ball and has been doing the fundamentals of defending, apart from that game against Athletic Madrid. Obviously, Mourinho would have to be more cautious now with Hausen than he was before, but the fact of the matter is the Spaniard needs to keep playing.
Centre-back: Ibrahima Konate
Konate has been Real Madrid's best centre back, and he has already become a non-negotiable starter for Real Madrid, or at least, he should be by now. If he continues to play the way he is playing, there is no reason for him to be benched.
Left back: Marc Cucurella
Cucurella has not performed as well as he does for Spain, but he has still had some good performances here and there. He has been tasked with a lot of responsibility to defend completely alone on the left flank, but he is still Real Madrid's best full back. His defensive attributes will help Real Madrid in the big games.
Midfielder: Bernardo Silva
Silva needs to be in the lineup. It is as clear to the author as it is to many of the fans that Real Madrid is sorely lacking a profile like Silva in the team. He loves having the ball and constantly roams around to be able to be open when he is being passed the ball. For that and so many other reasons, Silva simply has to start the big games, because otherwise Real Madrid will be chasing shadows all game long.
Midfielder: Fede Valverde
Silva and Valverde have worked well together, and his synergy to drift into the right back spot will also help Trent Alexander-Arnold go up. Forward Valverde will be the workhorse in the midfield, and alongside Silva, he should have a much better time than he does alongside Aurelien Tchouameni.
Attacking midfielder: Jude Bellingham
Jude Bellingham is Real Madrid's best player. He starts every game, and he will remain a non-negotiable player in the eleven.
Right wing: Endrick
Endrick solves a lot more problems through the right wing spot than people realise. Obviously, he has a wonderful left foot, but it's also worth noting that his defensive output, his offensive output, pace, power, and the ability to drift inside the box will be really helpful for Real Madrid. There is a case for Arda Guler to start in this position, and he probably will for many games. As we saw against Atletico, he does struggle against more physical teams on that right wing spot, which is why it makes sense to have a bit more pace on the flanks. Guler makes a strong case for himself, but if he is to start somewhere, it should be in midfield. That cannot happen unless Bellingham is injured, which is why Endrick should definitely start on the right wing so that there is also a presence inside the box whenever Mbappe ventures to the left wing from time to time.
Left wing: Yan Diomande
Diomande has been good for Real Madrid in two games. Before that, he was struggling a little bit, but he has looked good on the left wing, as well as on the left side for Ivory Coast. He also had a decent cameo against Athletic Madrid while playing as a left winger, which is why he should continue. His floor is higher than Vinicius Junior's base at the moment, and even though his ceiling would be lower, Real Madrid would just get more consistent performances from Diomande on that left side.
Striker: Kylian Mbappe
Mbappé is Real Madrid's best goal scorer, and even though he was not that good against Atletico Madrid, he still warrants a starting role because of the number of goals he scores. He will have to improve on many things, but he will be there.
