Real Madrid fans have been talking about a few select things these last few weeks.
The conversation has been about departures, kit numbers or new arrivals trying to adjust to the lifestyle in Madrid.
The signing part has slowly died down, but there are other things to look forward to, and Real Madrid have been building up a battle between two strikers - both of whom want the number 9 jersey.
Gonzalo Garcia, who is Real Madrid's academy graduate and also their best player in the Club World Cup, was supposed to battle it out with Endrick for the number 9 shirt, and it has been a topic for a while now.
Real Madrid's decision makes complete sense
According to Alberto Pereiro, the conversation is over. Real Madrid have chosen their new number nine. Gonzalo Garcia will be promoted to the first team, and will get the number 9 jersey as well.
Honestly, that is fantastic news for Garcia, as well as every single player to have ever played for Castilla, too, as it gives them hope that a migration to the first team is possible, even in this era, where every single position is filled with great players.
For Endrick - who was close to leaving Real Madrid for another Spanish club on loan until it collapsed - it is not really a bad thing. I mean, maybe Xabi Alonso views Endrick more as a winger than a striker. Maybe the number 9 jersey would be too big of a step for Endrick considering his first season at Real Madrid was not partiularly fantastic.
Garcia, on the other hand, has been a Real Madrid player through and through for a while now, coming up the ranks, and I guess he understands the values of that number a bit better than Endrick would.
I don't care about the numbers anyway - as long as Garcia is in the first team squad next season, that is amazing news for every Real Madrid fan.
