It's not an exaggeration to say that this summer is one of the most important summers in the recent history of Real Madrid. Following disastrous back-to-back trophyless seasons the squad is in for a number of major changes with the manager, the squad, and possibly even the president. One of the most important changes comes with the manager with Jose Mourinho expected to be returning to the Bernabeu and he has quite the job on his hands. Former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick once said about United they needed open heart surgery not cosmetic surgery, and that is exactly what Jose Mourinho is planning with Los Blancos.

As being reported by theMadridZone on X, Jose Mourinho has made his transfer demands know to Real Madrid, with the manager wanting to sign one or two center-backs, a backup right-back, a left-back if Fran Garcia leaves, a defensive midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder. The Portuguese is looking for almost an entire squad reconstruction and given what we've seen the past two years, it will be welcomed by all.

The Special One plans major open heart surgey at Real Madrid this summer

Jose has never been shy to splash the cash in the transfer market and luckily for him the club seems to be willing to do that as club president Florentino Perez desperately wants to get back to the top of dominating Europe. With so many new pieces in Jose's mind, let's look at each of the areas Mourinho is planning on reinforcing and what names the club has been linked with in the past to see who exactly could end up at Real Madrid this summer.

First we've got the center-backs, this is an area the club has been hoping to reinforce long before Mourinho was ever a topic and they've been linked with quite a few in the past each of which have their own stumbling blocks. Names like Ibrahima Konate, Nico Schlotterbeck, and most recently Josko Gvardiol have all been topics of conversation, however with Konate close to expending, Schlotterbeck having already agreed a new deal with Dortmund, and City asking for €90 million for Gvardiol, who exactly will be available for Mourinho in the summer is still somewhat of a mystery.

Next the full-backs, with Dani Carvajal departing, Trent Alexander-Arnold is now the only natural right-back at the club so it makes sense to bring in a new right-back. Jose Mourinho reportedly loves the idea of bringing Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot to the Bernabeu, however whether that will materialize remains unknown. As for a left-back should Fran Garcia leave, a few weeks ago Real were reportedly linked with an unlikely move for Brentford left-back Michael Kayode, with the Italian catching many eyes in the Premier League this season.

And finally the midfielders, the most talked about recruitment for Real Madrid this summer. The club has long been linked with moves for either Rodri or Enzo Fernandez, with both now seeming to be more possible than previously thought, so which player will be signed will ultimately be Jose's call in the end. As for the attacking midfielder, it's looking like Nico Paz will be returning from his successful loan time at Como, returning to the Bernabeu as a completely different player, one that can have a much grater impact in the team than most other attacking midfielders.
