Dani Carvajal has just returned from a season-long injury. I don’t even remember the last time he played, it’s been that long. But his return is going to be crucial for Madrid.
Even though he will compete for a starting spot with Trent Alexander-Arnold, I still think he’s going to get a fair share of minutes. Both right-backs are exceptional, and not playing even one of them would be a significant loss.
Moreover, Carvajal is one of the captains, and he’s still got it in him despite his age. He now has one more incentive to fight for his place, one that could etch his name in Real Madrid’s history.
Dani Carvajal has the chance to make history with Real Madrid
Luka Modric is currently the most decorated Real Madrid player, having won 28 trophies with the club, and he won’t be adding to that tally anymore. Behind him is Dani Carvajal, who has won 27 trophies and is just one away from equaling the Croatian’s record.
If Carvajal manages to win two trophies with Real Madrid this season, he will overtake Modric and claim the crown for himself.
And winning two trophies is the bare minimum for Madrid this season. After going without a major title last season, the expectations are higher than ever.
Carvajal was the young boy who laid the foundation stone of Real Madrid City, and his career would end so poetically if he were to leave as the most decorated player in the club’s history.
And if we’re on the subject, I think it would be fitting if he overtook the record by first winning the league, then capping it off with the Champions League. Winning the latter would also make him the player with the most UCL trophies ever.
As they say, dreaming is free, and I love to dream. Carvajal has been a loyal servant to Real Madrid throughout his career, and I think he deserves such an honor. As they say on the internet, “I will love it, and I think I deserve it.”
