Dani Carvajal has told Esquire he cannot play in Europe if he ever leaves Real Madrid. He's also revealed a promise made to him by Joselu.
Dani Carvajal is a Real Madrid legend, through and through. During his time at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, the Spanish full-back has become one of the best defenders in the world.
Having won everything there is to win in his career except the World Cup, Dani Carvajal can be very content looking back at his career so far. However, I must stress the "so far", Carvajal is only getting better with age.
At the moment, Dani Carvajal is injured, for quite some time. Therefore, he has had some time to think about life after Real Madrid.
Dani Carvajal addresses where he will go after leaving Real Madrid
Speaking to Esquire, Dani Carvajal revealed that he cannot play in Europe after leaving Real Madrid. This is due to not wishing to compete against Real Madrid, the team he loves.
Dani Carvajal also said that his former Real Madrid teammate Joselu is keeping a place warm for him at Al-Gharafa, in Qatar. Therefore, a different continent to Europe is where Carvajal envisions his playing time after Real Madrid.
In his own words (quoted by Fabrizio Romano), Dani Carvajal said: “If I ever leave Real Madrid, I will not play in Europe. I will not compete against Real Madrid in the Champions League or in Spain. Joselu tells me: I'm waiting for you here. I'm saving the RB spot for you."
In an ideal world. Dani Carvajal will not leave Real Madrid. This would not make him a one-club man, considering he spent time at Bayer Leverkusen before returning to Real Madrid. However, it is an honour to retire at Real Madrid.
That said, given that Real Madrid want to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold as their new right-back option, this is likely a sign they are looking at their long-term Dani Carvajal replacement. Of course, Dani's current injury has accelerated Real Madrid's need to sign Trent but it remains the case.
Nevertheless, Dani Carvajal's legacy at Real Madrid will remain intact no matter what happens to him in the future. In fact, this even feels like an insult to say, considering he is a club legend.
Dani Carvajal has made a pledge that he will not play against Real Madrid, at least not competitively. This only goes to show that he only has one club in his heart.
